Some people have something precious: time!
People are happy to give their time if it is for a good cause: these are the people we are looking for.
Our offer: Happiness through helping together. With us at the Franziskustreff. The place where homeless people leave happier thanks to a delicious breakfast, a kind smile and understanding ears. Because of you. Because you serve food on the spot. And give a smile at the same time.
And you smile together with more than 60 volunteers, led by our small circle of full-time employees. We all work together - in the midst of the fast-paced financial metropolis - in the name of humanity: because this is about people. Just as they are: extraordinary, with dreams, hopes and life experiences. Just like you. Only without a roof over their heads.
Many people know that homeless people in Frankfurt spend the night in covered underground stations. In their distress, they occupy shop entrances that are reasonably sheltered from the rain or ventilation shafts that provide warmth. Some even live in parks and forests all year round - under plastic tarpaulins and makeshift self-built structures. Around ten per cent of them are women. Perhaps they could use emergency accommodation. But they don't ask for it. They feel too marginalised even for that.
To reach these people, we are asking for your smile and your help. You are the power to give homeless people moments of humanity. Because kind gestures and kind words make difficult days more bearable. And because it gives our guests courage. Perhaps for the first step back into a regular life.
THEY HOLD: WE HOLD THEM!
Sometimes our volunteers have to swallow: when they learn about the hard fates of the guests.
Working with us also means meeting people among our guests who are sad, desperate or angry about their situation in life. But the experienced core team provides support: housekeeping manager Katrin Renz and the facility manager Brother Michael. They manage the processes. They are always there for the volunteers - for you. They provide answers to problems and questions. Always. Your suggestions for improvement - whether in terms of housekeeping logistics or dealing with guests - are important to us.
Wherever you help us - you will always find our help.
Questions need: Answers.
Volunteering also means civic engagement. It is an activity where you do not want or need to earn money. Above all, it is voluntary and orientated towards the common good. For most voluntary activities, such as work in religious communities, you do not receive any financial compensation. For other tasks, such as coaching youth teams, sports clubs, for example, often pay an annual, tax-free expense allowance.
For us, it is the breakfast service for homeless and poor guests. We look forward to your help: with service in the dining room and with preparing and following up breakfast. You help shape our everyday life - and thus that of our guests. Through conversations. Or simply by lending an ear. And above all: by enjoying your work at the Franziskustreff. Or you can strengthen the social counselling office team and work outside. You with us - together we make the difference!
Please send an e-mail to our Head of Housekeeping, Katrin Renz: hauswirtschaft@franziskustreff.de. Or to our social worker Svetlana Strojan: sozialberatung@franziskustreff.de. Please write a few personal sentences about yourself. Let us know when it suits you: Your possible time slot, days of the week and the time rhythm of your assignment. As a rule, we will then meet in person - and you will get to know the Franziskustreff "in real life" for a day.
The Franziskustreff is your chance to give time and attention: to homeless and poor fellow human beings. You can do this. Also because you will be warmly welcomed and professionally trained by a great team. You will receive further training in first aid. You will also learn other skills that you can put to good use in everyday life. You will gain experience that will make friends, acquaintances and family respect you as a competent contact person. Because you have had special experiences with our guests. You are authentic and close to them.
Our service in housekeeping at the Franziskustreff starts at 6.30 in the morning. It ends at 12.30 pm, after lunch together. The social counselling service runs from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Particularly good and important: We discuss your possible days of work at the Franziskustreff individually and plan them well - good for you and us!
Since 2021, the so-called honorary office allowance has been 840 euros per year. This tax-free allowance favours, for example, activities as a club board member, treasurer, grounds or equipment manager, cleaning service, driving parents to children's away games or volunteer referees in the amateur sector. Our volunteers at the Franziskustreff do not receive this lump sum. Their benefit is different ...
Our expense allowance is appetising. And it makes you happy and satisfied. Our volunteers enjoy a hearty breakfast together and a delicious lunch on the day of their work. We traditionally organise our joint volunteer outing once a year: all the volunteers are there and you can feel the strength and solidarity. On top of that, there is free further training - and we celebrate a great summer party together!
Walking and standing activities: These are typical of voluntary work at the Franziskustreff. And punctuality is part of our job - like a spoon to an egg. Because our guests should be able to rely on us. Doors open: and we are ready! That's why we rely on volunteers to be punctual, reliable and responsible in their work. Anyone aged 16 and over with a basic knowledge of German can volunteer at the Franziskustreff.
