Brother Wendelin Gerigk opened the Franziskustreff at the Capuchin monastery Liebfrauen in Frankfurt am Main in 1992. This was important to him: there should always be an open space for homeless and poor people in this place. With a hearty breakfast. With social counselling on request. And lots of approaches and help to find their way into a better life again or again: With a roof over their heads. And a personal perspective with a future. Numerous benefactors have supported this place ever since.
Its founder always saw it as the work of benefactors - under the patronage of the Capuchin Province. For a long time, they therefore took over the administration of donations, staff and material costs.
The German Capuchin Province established the Franziskustreff Foundation - recognised as a charitable and non-profit organisation on 13 March 2013 - to ensure that the Franziskustreff at the Liebfrauenkirche continued to operate after Brother Wendelin's death. As the sponsor of an independent local aid centre. Since then, the benefactors can be all the more certain: Their gifts arrive directly. And they are in good hands.
The Capuchins remain responsible for the project. They appoint the foundation's board of directors. The administration, on the other hand, works independently of the order, church and state - autonomously in Frankfurt.
The foundation's statutes clearly state that the Franziskustreff Foundation works selflessly. In other words, it is not profit-orientated for the sake of profit. But to fulfil its purpose: To free people from homelessness and poverty in the short and long term. The donated and endowed money always ends up where it belongs.
